Commissioning a custom artwork is such a beautiful and special process, and I would be absolutely honored to work with you to create a painting that is totally unique and perfect for you!

Below is an outline of the commission process. Please feel free to reach out with any questions as you decide on your one-of-a-kind commissioned painting.

I can’t wait to get to know you and be part of this special process with you!

The Commission Process

Step 1: Choose your dream PLACEMENT

The first thing to consider when you are commissioning a painting is where in your space you want to display the piece? Is it in your living room, an office, a bedroom? What is the color of the wall? What kinds of things will exist in the space with the painting?

Step 2: Decide on a SIZE

Deciding where you would like to put your commissioned painting will allow you to understand what size painting will go well. It’s generally good to have a painting large enough to fill the space but that will not overwhelm the wall it hangs on. Once I have received your Commission Request Form (below), I will be happy to consult with you personally on size and what will work best in your space.

Step 3: Pick a SUBJECT MATTER

There are a few types of commissioned paintings that I create for my collectors.

Commissioned Painting by Camille Selhorst
  1. Transformational Portraits are an amazing way to give a one-of-a-kind gift, honor our transformations and create a memories that never fade. Through conversation and reflection, you and I will, together, weave your experiences into a sacred story, which I will then distills through design and metaphor into a work of art. These paintings aren't just beautiful portraits. They also honor the deep transformation of the human spirit. If you are local, I will take photographs for the portrait. Otherwise, a good quality photo of the subject will need to be provided.

  2. Abstracts & Abstract Florals are also beautiful commissions. Choose your preferences for florals and color palette, and I will incorporate your ideas into my design to create a painting in my signature style that fits beautifully in your space.

  3. Request for other subject matter can also be discussed, taking into account that all commissioned work will be designed in my signature style.

Step 4: Compile your INSPIRATION

Before beginning your painting, having an idea of what inspired your interest in my work is helpful. Things to consider are, which paintings of mine are your favorite? What colors or color combinations do you enjoy and would you like incorporated into your commission? What colors would go well in the space you’ve chose for your piece? In the Commission Request Form below, I will ask you to include a few examples your inspiration and ideas for the piece, and then once you have sent your request, I will follow up via email to discuss these ideas with you in more detail.

Step 5: Decide on a final idea and discuss PRICING

Once I have received your commission request form and have followed up to determine exactly what you are looking for, I will send you a price quote. Pricing for commissions run slightly higher than my other gallery works due to the detailed process of working with you on a special custom design. Generally, pricing for commissions start at $1,000. I ask for a 50% deposit before beginning the piece to secure your commission with the remaining balance plus shipping due upon completion of your painting. Once we have come to an agreement on this, I will begin the commissioned painting!

Step 6: Sit back and relax while I finish the PAINTING

Completing a commissioned painting usually takes me 6 to 8 weeks. If you need a piece sooner, that can be discussed. Once I have finished the painting, I will send a photograph of the finished piece. Then, once you have viewed your painting and we have both agreed on the final product, I will ship it to you signed, wired and ready to hang on your wall! All original paintings come with a certificate of authenticity signed by me, and are packaged with gallery standards to ensure safe arrival.
