POEM

“Soft lilting lovers

find their way to each other

and I have found my way

to this bed of blooms.

As the sun cascades

across the earth, I lay

amidst lilac and honeysuckle

and the sweet petals

of this garden.

My heart,

which once longed to buckle

under the weight of this world

has finally caught some momentary warmth,

and I could hold on

for dear life

and never leave this place.

What do we do

when the world asks us

to bear too much?

I have found that laying in a field

of nasturtiums and California poppies,

letting the scent

of sweet honeysuckle and wind

wash over me

is the only way I know

(in these times)

to feel my heart lift.

Resting here,

watching the drifting clouds

make their lazy way

through the sky,

I can finally begin to feel

the warmth of the world

envelope me once more.“
