POEM

“No words can describe

what it takes to get here -

long days of leaning into fear

and hours of pulling

tiny threads of light

through the cracks of reality.

I have seen how the world wonders

at this throne I sit on

but I know it is just brambles

spun to gold

on a slow and steady road

of choosing my dream again and again.

I have loved every moment -

through the tears

and fears

and faint hints of starlight

beckoning me forward -

for the richness that this life has offered. but I know that this woman

standing here

has also earned her place -

uncovered herself again and again,

ripped away at the thoughts that didn’t serve,

and stepped boldly into the unknown.

There is no magic in this majesty

only a long road of choosing to dream

‘til the path has been chosen

so many times

you wake up one day

and realize

that who you were is a faint memory

and the woman staring back at you,

that queen in the mirror,

is the sum of those many choices

you weren’t afraid to make.”
